Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Representing the climax of 'The Light and Darkness Saga', Destiny 2: The Final Shape stands as a thrilling final chapter of the conflict between the Guardians and our immortal foe, the Witness. Taking place within the Pale Heart of the ever-present orblike machine known as the Traveler, the narrative concerns the clashing forces of the Light (commonly associated with circular shape language) and the Darkness (commonly associated with triangular shape language). The expansion icon for The Final Shape needed to be something that conveyed the conflict between these two elemental forces and also spoke to the malevolent influence of The Witness over the course of the campaign narrative.

The Final Shape expansion icon uses an overlapping circle and triangle to denote the clash of Light and Darkness in the expansion story. The negative space at the center of the icon recalls the celestial, triangular portal on the face of The Traveler which was created by the Witness at the conclusion of Destiny 2: Lightfall and serves as a Portal to the Pale Heart, the primary setting of this expansion. The delicate lattice forms in the center of the icon echo the shape language used in past spaces associated with the Witness and convey that character's creeping influence both within the Pale Heart and over the narrative generally.
