DESTINY 2: SEASONAL BRANDING

Seasons in Destiny 2 consisted of weekly narrative experiences which served to bridge the gap between one expansion and another. I was priviledged to develop the brand identity for three of the four seasons of the Lightfall year of content. Those seasons told the story of the Guardians and their allies preparing for the final confrontation with The Witness in The Final Shape.

Season of Defiance

In the immediate aftermath of the Lightfall campaign, our Guardian walks the path of an Awoken Paladin and does battle with the force of The Witness remaining on Earth. The primary icon for this season was envisioned to be the crest of the legendary Awoken Paladins, of whom there were traditionally seven as represented by the diamonds in the center of the crest. The diamonds are enclosed by the spiked outline of Awoken Queen Mara Sov's crest over the purple of the Awoken royalty. Accent shapes and colors stay close to commonly used Awoken visual language.

Season of the Deep

Attempting to discover hidden truths about the origins of The Witness, our Guardian dives deep below the methane waves of Titan to make contact with an ancient Leviathan. The primary icon for this season portrays the eye of the Leviathan Ahsa, frequently seen through a circular porthole throughout the seasonal narrative. The form of the eye is contained between wavelike shapes evoking the choppy surf of Titan's methane oceans. The UI brand template uses light to dark blue gradients to imply a descent to the ocean floor, a recurring event in Season of the Deep.

Season of the Wish

Seeking a way to follow The Witness into the heart of The Traveler, the Guardians and Queen Mara Sov join forces with the shade of the Ahamkara Riven, a duplicitous wish-granting dragon. The primary icon for this season depicts Riven in iconographic form surrounded by a clutch of her eggs which the Guardian spends this season attempting to recover. The colors used in the UI brand template veer away from the rich purples usually associated with the Awoken and the Dreaming City and instead convey the eldritch atmosphere of Riven's ghostly form. While some radial elements established in Destiny 2: Forsaken are used here, the accent shapes are more elegantly brutal and imply the spines and fangs of an Ahamkara.
